Vordernberg

Yesterday, the people of Vordernberg voted for the installment of a Schubhaftzentrum (what a word) in their town. Read the Standard Article here.

It is quite interesting how the question was formulated:

"Sind Sie für eine positive Gemeindeentwicklung durch die mögliche Gründung von Gewerbebetrieben in Vordernberg, die Absicherung der örtlichen Infrastruktur (Nahversorger, Arzt, Apotheke usw.), eine Investition des Bundes von rund 15 Mio. Euro in Vordernberg, eine jährliche Wertschöpfung von rund 10 Mio. Euro, die Schaffung von rund 150 Arbeitsplätzen in Vordernberg und eine Mehreinnahme im Gemeindehaushalt von bis zu 130.000 Euro im Zusammenhang mit der Errichtung eines Schubhaftzentrums?"

This decision is not as controversial as it seems: the town (the whole region in fact) is suffering from economic slowdown over the recent decades and getting a Schubhaftzentrum will provide some heavily needed workplaces.
