Digistanbul

I thought i can as well blog in English again. Although it is much more convenient to do it in German, English is much more inclusive, and maybe it 'pays' in the long run.

So, today I feature the rest of the images taken in Istanbul.



this one sums up alot of things: deep religiosity in some parts of the city, pidgeons as metaphor for the cities lively athmosphere, the flag on a shopping bag, the whole setting quite telling for the old parts.

Streets of Istanbul

I finally took the time to edit the series "Streets of Istanbul". Initially planned to be on the Gecekondu settlements only, it evolved to a bigger series which hopes to catch some general spirit of this city. It strongly focusses on the Gecekondus though, because i think it is a part of Istanbul previously unseen by many Westerners.

Ich hatte endlich Zeit die Serie Streets of Istanbul zusammenszustellen. Ursprünglich hatte ich vor, mich auf die Gecekondu Siedlungen zu konzentrieren, habe aber festgestellt, dass ich lieber zwei Seiten der Stadt zusammen präsentieren möchte. Der Hauptfokus liegt aber auf den Gecekondular, Diese Seite Istanbuls ist sehr vielen Menschen unbekannt, und der Größenzuwachs Istanbuls wird durch diese informellen Siedlungen, die teilweise schon zu "normalen" Stadtvierteln herangereift sind, bewältigt.

Istanbul - Street III

like the images posted yesterday, i lke this one because it tells a story about the city, which's mentality is somewhere caught in between traditionalism and modernity.



This one tells something about the family ties in Turkey.



And this one is simply a nice portrait. I was shooting inside a mosque, then this young woman showed up. She clearly seemed to be bored by the praying of her mother and asked me what i was after. I told her i was a photographer, she later told me she was working for the police in Istanbul but had a day off. We had a nice chat, I asked for an image with her and her mother, she agreed. I wonder if i gave her a b.card (and i still wonder if she wanted me out of the mosque or out for a coffee...)
