Today, Larry Sultan died at the age of 63. The New York times writes about it
here





I always loved his mixture of vernacular and staged photography. Make sure to read the NYTimes article; the quotes of his father are very insightful additional information:

‘Any time you show that picture,’ ” Mr. Sultan said his father told him, “‘you tell people that that’s not me sitting on the bed looking all dressed up and nowhere to go, depressed. That’s you sitting on the bed, and I am happy to help you with the project, but let’s get things straight here.’ ”

Equally interesting as his work with his parents is his work "The Valley" where he basically photographed behind the scenes of the US porn industry, in a way, that makes the happenings appear pretty banal. The picture above is taken from this work.
